Leadership – Accomplishments

  •  25% increase in new student enrollment each year
  •  Harris-Stowe was once an institution in which 80% of the students were from St. Louis, now 37 states and 21 countries are represented
  •  Harris-Stowe was able to increase its enrollment without sacrificing student academic quality
  •  First Honors College was launched. Scholars have an average grade point average of 3.88 and an ACT range between 24 and 28
  •  As one of the leaders in the state and the nation in graduating underrepresented scholars with baccalaureate degrees, HSSU has collaborated with the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to “re-imagine the first year.” The strategic plan is to increase the percentage of scholars who persist to graduation. Harris-Stowe was one of only 44 institutions from across the nation selected to participate in this prestigious project
  •  Degree program offerings have seen a 30% increase
  •  At 86%, the percentage of faculty with terminal degrees is at its highest in university history
  •  Launched the Wells Fargo Finance Education Center which houses a live trading floor
  •  In 2017, began construction on the HSSU Center for Entrepreneurship, the first one focused on youth within the urban community

Recruitment of Out-of-State Students

  • The Midwest Regeneration Award (which awards full-time students from neighboring states) was approved prior to Dr. Warmack’s arrival


  • HSSU full-time enrollment has increased by 17%

Student Retention

  •  HSSU’s current end-of-year analysis shows an 85% retention rate for first-time, full time freshmen who enrolled in the fall of 2017
  •  In 2017, retention of first-time, full-time and part-time transfer students was 90.6% and 66.7%
  •  HSSU has one of the lowest tuition rates in the state
  •  Implementation of the 15 to Finish Program
    •  Students graduate on time and with less debt
    •  Take 15 credits for the same cost as 12
    •  Fall to Spring retention for 15 to Finish students is 88.4%
    •  Fall to Fall retention is 56%

Graduation Rate

  •  Overall degree production has increased by 34%
  •  Approximately 51% of HSSU graduates are transfer students, invisible graduates who are not counted in HSSU's graduation rate
  •  In 2017, HSSU will have graduated over four times more students than will be recognized by our main reporting agency (IPEDS)

 Harris-Stowe’s College of Education is fully accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP)
