Dr. Dwyane Smith is a native of St. Louis, MO, and a product of the St. Louis Public School system. Dr. Smith has a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and a Master of Arts degree in Education Administration from Truman State University (formerly Northeast Missouri State University). He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Missouri-Columbia in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis, with emphasis areas in Multicultural Education and Black Studies. He also completed the Management Development program at Harvard University.

Dr. Smith has conducted research across the U.S. and abroad on issues of access, diversity, multiculturalism and pluralism, and he coauthored the article “A Portrait of Remedial Instruction: Faculty Workload and Assessment Techniques,” that appeared in the spring 2008 edition of the Higher Education Journal. He has facilitated workshops on diversity and multiculturalism in various schools and colleges in Great Britain.

The Chair Academy honored Dr. Smith as a 2010 Exemplary Leader at the organization’s 19th Annual International Conference. The Missouri College Personnel Association (MOCPA) also recognized Dr. Smith with the 2009 Dr. Richard Caple Award.

Dr. Smith joined the Harris-Stowe family prior to the start of the 2006-2007 academic year. “I have long admired the impact that HSSU has had on the state,” said Dr. Smith. “While working at other institutions, I would often encourage students to attend HSSU. I also feel that my talents and skills set would be useful at HSSU. I believe in the leadership of Dr. Dwaun Warmack and the vision he has for transforming lives; I do believe that we have some of the best faculty not only in the metropolitan area, but the state.”

Dr. LaTonia Collins Smith began her career in higher education at Harris-Stowe State University in 2010. Her accomplishments include grant writing and management, recruitment and retention for STEM program participants and most recently the rebranding of the university’s career services and academic advising departments.
Collins Smith earned a Bachelor of Social Work degree from the University of Central Missouri, a Master of Social Work and a Master of Public Health degree from Saint Louis University and a Doctor of Education in Higher Education Leadership from Maryville University of St. Louis.  

“My passion is to inspire and motivate students through degree completion and ultimately career placement”, says Dr. Collins Smith. “My favorite part about serving as a leader at HSSU is that it allows me to make contributions to help cultivate a student-centered, student-driven, and student-focused collaborative learning community.



Sabrina Brown

Sabrina M. Brown joins the Harris-Stowe team as a proud HBCU alumna.  

Sabrina has a Bachelor of Arts in English from Elizabeth City State University and a Master of Arts in Student Affairs in Higher Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. 

After completing her master’s degree,  Sabrina returned home to North Carolina where she lived and worked on the campus of Davidson College in the areas of residence life and minority student services. After a successful run of three years, she knew it was time to advance and relocated to Memphis, Tennessee to serve at Rhodes College.  At Rhodes, Sabrina served as the Assistant Dean of Students for Multicultural Affairs. During her tenure, she was able to move the office of multicultural affairs to a more central location on campus, reduce the disproportionate number of students of color who were on academic probation, organize a safe space for LGBT students and create and supervise a leadership coordinator position.

Sabrina joined Harris-Stowe in the fall of 2016,  “Returning to an HBCU was always my goal.   My HBCU shaped me into the professional that I am today and I want to be a part of that experience for others. Harris-Stowe State University nurtures yet challenges our students to succeed.  As I begin this journey with my new colleagues , I aspire to make positive contributions in the lives of our students and help nurture them on their path to a successful future.“

Sabrina is currently completing her doctoral work in Educational Leadership in Higher Education at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
