Celebrating Clay Center Staff

The April Teachers of the Month are:

Antoinette Ledbetter

Lead Teacher (Apples)

I am one of the teachers in the Assorted Apples classroom. I have been at the Clay Center for an entire year! I am so glad to be a part of a great learning and teaching environment. Over the years my love for helping others has increased so much that I decided to make it official by obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Early Child Education at Central Methodist University in St. Louis, MO.

I can remember as early as five years old wanting to teach and help others explore new things in life. I enjoy watching children grow and develop and discover new things. I believe that learning starts early in life. My mother inspired me by showing patience when I couldn’t figure something out.

Some of my favorite activities include reading, writing, singing, drawing and watching old movies. My favorite color is lavender. This year I intend to help and guide students to reach their highest potential, my desire is to make learning FUN!

Shamiya Moore

Lead Teacher (Coconuts)

Shamiya Moore has been a lead toddler one teacher at the William Clay Early Childhood Development and Parenting Education Center for five years. Although her given name is Shamiya, her students and colleagues affectionately call her Ms. Miya.   Before her time at the Clay Center, Ms. Moore worked as a volunteer child care worker for Parenting for Success and at the Boys and Girls Club of Jefferson City, MO.  Shamiya has a passion for working with children and their families and continues learning more about the field of education.

Shamiya has a Bachelor's degree in Liberal Studies with an emphasis in Elementary and Special Education from Lincoln University, MO. While at Lincoln University Ms. Moore was very active in campus organizations and held many positions such as The Alpha Theta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. ( Corresponding Secretary 2011-12 and President, 2012-13) National Pan Hellenic Council ( Secretary, 2013),  President's Office Student Worker (2012-13.)  Ms. Moore is currently a graduate student at Lindenwood University, with hopes of completing her Master's degree in Elementary Education.

Ms. Moore was born and raised in East St. Louis, IL where she currently still lives. She loves to spend time with her family, friends, and sorority sisters. Traveling, reading, and most of all SHOPPING!  Shaniya’s goals and aspirations are to become a college professor and advisor to aid college students in their path to success and happiness in the field of education.  Shamiya also aspires to do field research for educational textbooks for companies such as Pearson or McGraw Hill.
