The College of Education proudly boasts of its status as the oldest college at Harris-Stowe State University. Accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), the College of Education is committed to preparing teachers and other school professionals who possess the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to become successful career educators.
The major purpose of the College of Education is to develop reflective practitioners in a diverse society who demonstrate competency in their respective areas of responsibility, utilize research and best practices, are informed decision-makers and advocates for children, and who hold themselves accountable for those whom they serve and to the profession.
Through collaboration with other departments at the university, our faculty and staff are committed to building relationships and creating an environment that is student-centered, provides excellent advising and close supervision to help ensure student success. Current trends, best practices in research, collaboration, reflection, technology use and professional development support and enhance students’ experiences throughout their matriculation.
Our programs are designed for traditional, non-traditional, first generation college and transfer students; with courses offered in various face to face, hybrid and online formats.
